Neophytes are plants that do not originally occur in an area but were brought there by humans after 1492 (e. g. Senecio canadensis in Central Europe). Depending on the degree of naturalization, agriophytes, adventives and ephemerophytes may be distinguished (cf. also native species, archaeophytes, invasive species).
