bladder-like trap
Bladder-like traps can be found in some
insectivorous plants that grow aquatic or on wet soils. In
Utricularia – Bladderwort, these are specialized
leaves which form few millimetres large vesicular locules in which a negative pressure is produced. When activated,
trigger hairs open and close the lid of the bladder-like trap abruptly. Thereby, the negative pressure sucks the prey into the bladder. The prey is subsequently digested enzymatically.
