A flower-head is a mostly discoid to capitate inflorescence (cf. also capitulum) in which the flowers are surrounded by a common sheath of mostly greenish and densely arranged bracts (cf. also involucrum) (e. g. in Carduus – Plumeless Thistle and other Asteraceae – Daisy family).
