Epiparasites are (almost) chlorophyll-free
parasites that gain nutrients (including carbohydrates) by mediation of a third
species (mostly fungi) from other plants (e. g.
Neottia nidus-avis – Bird's-nest Orchid). These
species are also referred to as saprophytes or mycotrophs.
