A spikelet is a spike-like partial-inflorescence that can be found e. g. in the Poaceae – Grasses and Cyperaceae – Sedges. In the Poaceae, typically 2 glumes are inserted at the base of the spikelets (e. g. in Avena sativa – Oat).
