papilionate flowers are referred to as wings (e. g. in
Cytisus scoparius – Broom and other Fabaceae – Pea
family members). Additionally, the term is used for other wing-like structures (e. g. at the
fruits of
Acer – Maple or at of the
stem of
Cirsium vulgare – Spear Thistle).
