Archaeophytes are non-native in an area but were brought there by humans before 1492 (e. g. Centaurea cyanus – Cornflower in Central Europe). Depending on the degree of naturalization, agriophytes, adventives and ephemerophytes may be distinguished (cf. also native species, neophytes, invasive species).
